This is a list to collect various references to projects or publications using mobile terminals and/or georeferencing for fiction, poetry and other kinds of literary experiences. References may be anything from newspaper articles and websites to books, academic papers etc.

Locative media and literature

Inventio-related projects:

  • textopia: By Anders Sundnes Løvlie, attempt at creating a ubiquitous and locative literary universe
  • Flâneur - part of the textopia project, a storytelling game using game-based creative techniques to involve participants in exploration of the urban environment. [Norwegian only.]
  • NarraHand by Andrew Morrison, project exploring collaborative storytelling on mobile location-aware devices

Other projects:

  • 34 North 118 West - Classic reference in the field. A series of "site-specific" works, amongst which some literature-oriented projects very similar to Narrahand and Tekstopia
  • Rider Spoke by Blast Theory. A very interesting project in which participants explore the city/landscape on bike and leave their own stories on various places, to be "found" by others.
  • 'Scape the Hood by Leslie Rule at Center for Locative Media, Digital Storytelling Initiative, KQED San Francisco. Very interesting, similar to 34N 118W.
  • Yellow Arrow - Very interesting low-tech approach based on physical stickers and text messages. Participatory and very popular. All over the world.
  • [murmur] - similar to Yellow Arrow, but with robust signposts and voice messages. Multiple cities, North America and Europe.

  • Implementation by Nick Montfort and Scott Rettberg, sticker-based novel posted in fragments all over the world (and documented online).
  • Itinerant by Teri Rueb, Frankenstein-inspired project in Boston.
  • REXplorer, tourist sightseeing game for Regensburg, Germany.
  • storymapping - various kinds of geo-referenced storytelling
